'Planning Rodney' Generates Positive Response

70 submissions have been received on ‘Planning Rodney’, following the close of the consultation period on the document.

Planning Rodney is a visual representation of where growth could occur and what types of land use could happen in different areas in the District.  The map was developed based on feedback from residents as part of ‘Vision Rodney’ consultation, which identified what was important to local residents.

Despite the current recession, during the next 10 – 20 years Rodney is expected to see a continuation of the sort of population growth and development it has experienced over the past 15 years.

Rodney District Council developed Planning Rodney in order to assist the community to understand the effects of this growth, to ensure any decisions on growth take place in an integrated framework, and to decide what shape the district should take over the next 20 years.

Three public meetings were held to discuss Planning Rodney: at Orewa, Warkworth and Helensville.  Approximately 60 people attended these meetings.

“The response from those attending the public meetings was largely positive, with the majority of participants indicating they supported the managed growth approach set out in Planning Rodney,” says Rory Palmer, the Council’s General Manager, Strategy.

“Residents wanted to see the Council follow through and make changes to its District Plan and its Long Term Council Community Plan to implement the ideas set out in Planning Rodney,” Mr Palmer adds.

Consultation on Planning Rodney closed on 21 November.  Submission hearings will be held on December 2 and 3 and are open to the public.

Following the hearing and consideration of submissions, Council will adopt Planning Rodney, subject to any changes arising from submissions.

Although Planning Rodney is not a legal document, the Council will use it as one of the base documents for its 10 year Council Community Plan (to be notified for public submissions in March next year) and for proposing any changes to the District Plan.
