Over 100 groups will benefit from community grants provided by Rodney District Council.
A total of $157, 285 was allocated to a range of groups at a recent Council meeting.
The funding was made available to groups for activities which promote social, recreational or community development in the District, or directly benefit any of the four wards in the District.
Groups that received significant grants included Parents Inc which was allocated $3,000 to help produce educational information for school pupils, the Mahurangi East Tennis Club which received $5,000 for surfacing tennis courts, the SK8 Snells Club who received $3,000 for skateboard facilities, and the Muriwai Volunteer Lifeguard Service who received $3,000 for a Junior Surf Safety and Skills Training Camp.
The Norwest Community Patrol Trust also received $3,000 to assist with the running costs of their vehicles, and the Whangaparaoa Rotary Club received $3,000 to help run the 2010 Soap Box Derby which raises funds for local schools.
In addition to these groups, a large number of other organisations will also benefit from Council funding which will enable a wide variety of services, facilities and events to be provided to the community.
Grant funding was allocated by ward to be in proportion to the size of the ward population.
