Council Releases List Of Properties

Rodney’s mayor Penny Webster says her council is listening to its community by releasing the schedule of council-owned property that it may consider for sale “at the right price.”

Mrs Webster says the Council had resolved initially to not release the list as there were concerns that public debate may have put off potential purchasers and jeopardised the maximum return to ratepayers.

But, publicity given to Council’s repeated assertions that no community parks were included in the list had met with public acceptance, and the publication of the list confirms those assertions.

“Whilst there is still some commercial risk attached to publication of the list, Council believes the wishes and interests of our ratepayers outweigh those risks,” says Mrs Webster.

However, she stresses that the schedule is not a list of properties which are to be sold immediately.

“These are some very marketable properties. There is no doubt about that, even in today’s climate. But that still doesn’t mean we are actively marketing all of them.”
