A set of standards that helps ensure ratepayers do not face additional costs because of shoddy workmanship leading to infrastructure failures has been released by the Rodney District Council.
The council’s Standards for Engineering Design and Construction (SEDC) is a technical manual that gives developers and others wanting to link into the public roading, water supply, wastewater or stormwater networks a means of compliance with the rules of the District Plan.
The SEDC ensures that all infrastructure associated with land development meets the required standard, and that design, construction materials, and building standards do not compromise the quality of the council asset.
The document provides flexibility to cater for the changing needs of the district and to encourage innovation.
The SEDC was last changed in 2006 and has since been under been under review by council’s engineers and asset managers.
The draft SEDC will be available on the Council’s website by clicking here from 19 November 2008. Land developers, architects, and engineers will be invited to attend a public meeting to discuss the changes at Centrestage Orewa on 26 November 2008.
