Rodney District Council is looking for volunteers to help it clean up graffiti around the region.
The Council – in partnership with the Ministry of Justice – is seeking support from individuals, community groups and/or sports teams as part of the Respect Rodney Graffiti Eradication project.
These volunteer teams will work as rapid graffiti removal teams and play an important part in a three year project aimed at eradicating graffiti across the district.
“Research shows that one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of graffiti is by removing it within the first 24 hours of it being discovered,” says Rodney District Council’s Acting Community Development Manager Paul Green.
“This reduces the recognition graffiti vandals crave and shows that an area is being monitored, increasing the risk of the vandals being caught.
Mr Green says volunteers will be provided with access to protective clothing, equipment and paint to help keep the community looking beautiful.
If you would like to know more about becoming a Respect Rodney Rapid Removal volunteer, contact Rodney District Council on 09 426 5169.
