New Liquor Bans Adopted

From 9 December new liquor bans will be introduced at the Old Cement Works and Wilson Road in Warkworth and at Lake Tomarata at Mangawhai.

The liquor bans will be introduced as a result of a review of the Council’s existing liquor ban bylaw, and a request from the New Zealand Police.  The existing bylaw also has bans in place in a number of other areas which will be retained in the revised bylaw.

The revised bylaw was consulted on during September and October and 41 submissions were received on the proposal.   All of the submissions received supported the bylaw and the proposed new liquor ban areas.

As a result of a submission from the Police and a number of local residents, the Council agreed to add an additional recreation reserve around the Warkworth Cement Area/ Wilson Road Warkworth and apply the liquor ban 24 hours a day, at all times of the year.

A number of submitters also requested that the area where the Lake Tomarata liquor ban was proposed be extended.  As a result of these submissions and support for the proposal from the New Zealand Police the Council decided the ban should be extended to apply to the whole of Atkins Road.

Signs will be erected in the new liquor ban areas to inform the public that the bans are in place.

Under the existing liquor ban bylaw, liquor bans will continue to be in force in a number of other areas in Rodney.  These areas are parts of Omaha, Muriwai, Orewa, Warkworth, Red Beach, Stanmore Bay, Manly, Arkles Bay, Whangaparaoa, Snells Beach, Algies Bay, Martins Bay, Wellsford, Te Arai Point Beach,  Helensville and RDC Holiday Parks at Martins Bay and Orewa.

A number of other minor changes were also made to the bylaw as part of the review process.
