The Rodney District Council’s antiquated toilets at the top of Whangaparaoa’s Plaza Shopping Centre have fallen victim to more modern, better located public conveniences in the near vicinity
The council has closed the old toilets so it can gauge whether they are any longer worth the money on upkeep. The trial closure has been carried out in consultation with local retailers and Plaza management.
A council spokesperson says the toilets are probably past their use-by day and the feeling was that most patrons preferred the more modern facilities adjacent to the Plaza foodcourt or in the Whangaparaoa Library & Service Centre.
The spokesperson doubted the public would be “inconvenienced” by the fewer conveniences but said the situation would be re-assessed in about a month’s time.
Meanwhile signage would redirect those “caught short” to the other public facilities in the area.
