The reopening of two-way vehicle traffic has drawn a sigh of relief for motorists and a pedestrian safety warning from the Rodney District Council.
The council’s senior traffic engineer, Simon Mann, says many pedestrians are yet to get used to again looking right and left before making a crossing.
Until recently in the boulevard’s construction phase, traffic was one-way each side of the safety median barrier. That barrier has now been moved to the beach-side of the boulevard to allow for two-way traffic on the shopping side.
Traffic coming from both directions has caught some pedestrians by surprise, hence the warning from council. Mr Mann says safety signs are already up but more are being considered.
The Orewa Boulevard Enhancement project is on schedule and likely to be completed in time for Christmas.
