Rodney District now has a blueprint showing how the District will develop in the future, with the adoption of ‘Planning Rodney.’
Planning Rodney is a visual representation of a future district – showing where growth will be most appropriate and what types of land use could be permitted in different areas in the District. It was developed to give a physical dimension to Vision Rodney, which was developed by communities and identifies what is important to local residents.
Projections indicate that the population of Rodney District is expected to increase by 20,000 within 10 years.
Rodney District Council developed Planning Rodney in order to ensure any decisions on growth take place in an integrated framework, and that such decisions are in line with the outcomes that communities want for the district and for the area where they live.
The Council adopted Planning Rodney at its meeting on 18 December.
Consultation on the document closed in November and 70 submissions were received.
Three public meetings were also held to discuss Planning Rodney: at Orewa, Warkworth and Helensville. Approximately 60 people attended these meetings.
A number of changes were made to the document as a result of the consultation process. Substantial changes include shifting some the boundaries of the areas created in Planning Rodney, as suggested by a number of submitters.Although it is not a legal document, the Council will use the document to help prepare its 10 year Council Community Plan, which will be released for public consultation in March 2009.
The Council will also use Planning Rodney as a guide when considering future changes to the District Plan.
"Planning Rodney brings a lot of information about development and infrastructure together in one place which will assist Council to make decisions about the future of the District. It will also help others who invest in the district with their planning and decision making." says Warren Maclennan, Council’s Assistant Chief Executive.
"This will help the Council to make strategic decisions about the nature of the district, where growth will occur and what services are needed by different communities."
"It will also be clearer to the community what the overall plan is for the District, which may help direct development to the most appropriate areas," he adds.
A copy of the revised version of Planning Rodney will be on the Council’s website from early 2009.
