Recycling Gets New Impetus - Businesses Benefit

The Western Ward will be the first in Rodney to benefit from a new free recycling collection for businesses.

Next week trucks will roll, delivering one free recycling crate to each commercial operation in Helensville, Waimauku, Kumeu/Huapai and Riverhead.

Each crate will be collected weekly and if one crate is not enough the council will provide two more, also free.  Any more and a small fee will be charged.

Alternative bin options such as wheelie-bins are  also available  to groups of businesses such as a shopping mall or office block.

The council’s waste operations manager, Marcus Braithwaite, says the service answers demand by retailers and other town business for a regular collection of recycling material, similar to that currently offered residential households.

He says the three-crate free maximum will be enough for 155  litres of plastics, bottles and cans, plus an equivalent of bound paper and cardboard. This is extended to 210 litres for rural customers, though collections for rural areas will be fortnightly .

Information packs will be delivered with each crate or bin.

Anybody wanting extra crates should contact the council on 0800 426 5169.
