A group of year six and seven pupils from Riverhead Primary School have created a mural to reflect the area and some of the activities the children enjoy taking part in around Riverhead.
The mural, sponsored by Rodney District Council, has been erected on the front of the school’s new gymnasium.
Karis Forbes, Tyla Browne, Alex Porteous, Todd Gibbs, Ben Mawhiney, Logan Dunn and Cameron Bates worked together as a team on the artwork. The pupils were assisted by teacher Vicky Waters and project coordinator and artist Gaylene Earl to create this colourful piece featuring mountain bike riding, the historical Kauri Gum store, balloon rides and a variety of sporting activities.
Originally the mural was to be displayed at the Riverhead Tennis Courts, but plans to redevelop the courts meant moving the mural back to the school.
There will be an opening ceremony at the school on Wednesday October 28 at 10.30am where certificates will be presented to the children.
