Road Speed Limits – Muriwai-Te Oneone Rangatira Beach

Rodney District Council General Bylaw 1998

The Council at its Meeting on 28 August 2008 resolved by way of amendment the Bylaw to adopt interim speed limits for the inter tidal area of Muriwai-Te Oneone Rangatira Beach, South Kaipara Peninsula.

Proposed interim speed limits between mean high water springs to mean low water spring tides are:

a) 30kph in the intertidal area of the beach from Motutara Road to 650 metres north of the Coast Road Access; then

b) 60kph northwards to the beginning of the NZ Defence Force Bombing Range Zone;

The proposed interim speed limits on the beach are the first step towards a wider long term joint agency beach management programme to improve public safety and ecological management of the beach environment.

Road Rules apply on the beach and all vehicles must travel according to the conditions and at a safe speed (up to but not more than the road speed limit set for the beach at the time).
