Rodney Libraries Bring Books to the People

Rodney Libraries went outside their four walls on Saturday 17 January to take library services to the Warkworth A and P Show.

Library staff had a range of services on offer for show visitors who were able to take books out and join up at the library.   People were also able to browse the range of resources and talk with staff about the services offered by Rodney Libraries.

In keeping with the theme of the day there were plenty of agricultural themed books on display, as well as cooking and gardening books.

Children had the chance to join "Charlie," the Warkworth Children's Library mascot, on the picnic rug to read the picture books.  This proved popular with parents, for whom shows can otherwise be expensive outings.

Local author and regular Warkworth library user Maria Gill was invited along.  Maria attracted a number of avid listeners as she talked about her children's books including ‘Operation Nest Egg’ and ‘Dogs on the Job.’

"We live in a fantastic part of the country and really enjoy being part of our community.  This is the first time we have taken the library on location like this and we got some fabulous feedback from people about how much they love using the library and how pleased they were to see us at the Show,"  says Anne Dickson, of the Warkworth Library.

Ms Dickson says that Rodney Libraries have a wide range of free services available to residents, including assistance with reference enquiries, children’s storytimes and home delivery of library books for housebound residents.

“Rodney Libraries have a lot to offer and nearly all our services are free.  The libraries have been extremely busy over the summer period, which has been fantastic.  We encourage everyone to come in and join up,” she adds.
