The Kumeu and Helensville libraries will be hosting a special visitor next week.
Clifford, ‘the Big Red Dog’ will be dropping in for storytime at the Kumeu Library on Monday 11 November at 11.30am and at the Helensville Library on Monday 17 November at 10.30am.
Clifford is the star of a series of children’s books written by Norman Bridwell. Clifford was the runt of the litter, but with the care of a loving family he grew to be over seven metres tall. His adventures are captured in a number of books and have also been made into a children’s television show.
Clifford has visited libraries in the Rodney District on a number of other occasions. He has proven to be extremely popular with children, and has drawn crowds of up to 100 at previous appearances.
Clifford’s visit is part of the free weekly storytime programme hosted at Rodney libraries. Storytime sessions focus on picture book reading, songs and actions and are a chance for children to listen and participate in the fun.
Tina Collins, the Children’s Librarian at the Kumeu Library encourages parents and children to come and see Clifford while he is in town. "They should also come along to the weekly storytime sessions. It’s a great way for children to develop a love of books and learning."
Further information about storytime sessions can be found on the Rodney libraries website, www.rodneylibraries.govt.nz.
