The Auckland Regional Transport Authority, in collaboration with Rodney District Council, has put up a number of Real Time Passenger Information Signs at popular bus stops throughout Rodney.
The signs show the expected arrival times for the next two buses at each stop. These are linked to a central computer, which receives real time data from buses fitted with transponders.
This real time information will provide accurate information to patrons on bus arrivals and departures. Passengers waiting at a bus stop are often left wondering if a specific bus is yet to arrive or if it has already left. These new signs will address these issues.
Eight such signs have been installed on the Hibiscus Coast and one at Kumeu. These are the Type 1 (pole mounted) signs under this programme. Another 12 cabinet mounted signs will be erected at other popular bus stops throughout the region. The design for these signs is still under development.
The entire project is being financed by Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA), with funding from Auckland Regional Council and Land Transport New Zealand.
