Rodney Libraries has issued a call for youthful Superheroes to be part of its children’s summer reading programme.
The programme is being run once again at Rodney Libraries this summer. This year’s theme is “Superheroes Read.”
Orewa, Warkworth, Whangaparaoa, Kumeu, Helensville, Mahurangi East and Wellsford Libraries are all participating in the programme.
The summer reading programme is free and open to children aged between 5 and 12, however places are limited.
Registration for the programme opens at all libraries from 10am on Saturday 6 December, except Helensville where registration is open from Monday 8 December.
Children who want to be part of the programme need to visit the library with their caregiver to become registered.
As part of the reading programme superheroes are given surprise incentives after each report in session. At the end of the programme a special Superheroes finale party will be held.
“The summer reading programme has been extremely popular in recent years. Places usually fill up within a week of registration opening so it’s best to apply early,” says Kris Wehipeihana, the Council’s Library Service Development Coordinator.
“The programme is a great way for children to develop their reading skills over the summer, while having fun at the same time,” Kris says.
“Super human powers are not required to enter the programme - they develop naturally with a good course of reading,” she adds.
