Well it’s begun, the most daunting phase of the massive upgrade of the Hibiscus Coast Highway and its transformation into a pedestrian-friendly Orewa Boulevard. This has involved the temporary closure of the highway between Moenui Avenue and Florence Avenue.
The good news is that work is progressing faster than we anticipated and our contractors, Fulton Hogan and Contrax, are “well down the road” to getting that stretch reopened before the weekend. Better news still: this is the only planned full closure.
The project itself, which involves traffic calming, boulevard planting and widening the footpaths, is due for completion in time for Christmas 2009.
