As many of the world’s finest yachtsmen descend on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour for the Festival of Sailing, Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum invites Aucklanders to discover how our region’s love-affair with sailing began.
Between 1-31 March 2010, Rodney residents can visit the museum galleries and see Blue Water Black Magic – A Tribute to Sir Peter Blake for just $5 per adult, with free admission for accompanying children aged 14 years or under.
Voyager CEO Paul Evans says Auckland’s reputation as a global sailing hotspot is well recognised, but few people know how it came to be.
“With the eyes of the sailing world once again on Auckland, we thought it was a great opportunity to share Auckland’s sailing story with the people who are contributing to its future,” says Mr Evans.
“In particular, our new $9.5m exhibition, Blue Water Black Magic – A Tribute to Sir Peter Blake, charts the rise of a yachting nation from our earliest pioneers through to the modern day icons, like Sir Peter.”
Mr Evans says the exhibition combines cutting-edge interactivity with an impressive display of early racing yachts and of course, the America’s Cup-winning NZL32 Black Magic, to showcase Auckland and New Zealand’s remarkable sailing success.
Rodney district residents only need to bring proof of address to take advantage of the admission offer, which does not include Voyager Live heritage vessel experiences.
