Road Safely Campaign Winner Announced

The winner of a campaign to improve safety on bends has been announced.  Mr Brook Gyde has won a defensive driving course after his name was drawn from a pool of individuals who correctly identified pictures of four bends in Rodney District.

Rodney District Council ran the competition to encourage residents to approach bends safely by slowing down before they enter the bend.

“Crashes on bends are the number one road safety issue in the Rodney District,” says Rodney Road Safety Coordinator Jacki Dawson.

“It’s really important that people slow down and observe the recommended speeds when approaching corners, as it’s too late to reduce your speed once you’re already on a bend.  If you can’t see around the corner this indicates the bend will be sharper and you will need to go slower.   People should also be alert to any hazards on the road, she says.

The roads pictured as part of the campaign were:

a. Mangawhai Carters Road
b. Woodcocks Falls Road
c. Coatesville Riverhead Highway
d. Okura Rivers Road
