Council are in the initial stages of preparing a structure plan for an area of land to the west of the motorway at Silverdale.  The structure plan proposes the development of approximately 230 ha (gross area) of business land, primarily suitable for group 1 activities.  Group 1 activities are businesses that require large floor plates (but not retail).  For more information on the Silverdale West Structure Plan please click here.

Extensive economic analysis has been undertaken on demand and supply of business land on the Hibiscus Coast, both at regional and district level.  The most recent district research was undertaken by McDermott Consultants.  The paper examines employment trends, supply of business land in the district and region and discusses the outlook for the Hibiscus Coast.  Click here to view the report.

Rural towns and settlements

To ensure the sustainable growth of our rural towns, it is important that retail activity can be supported by the surrounding community.  To guide Council in the preparation of structure plans, research was undertaken to determine how much retail land would be required in each of the following settlements:

  • Waitoki
  • Kaukapakapa
  • Waimauku
  • Puhoi
  • Riverhead
