A resource consent is a permission to undertake an activity on a particular site.
It may have conditions to control the effects of the activity.
If an activity is approved the Council is required to monitor the activity to ensure it complies with the approval and any specified conditions.
If anyone undertakes an activity without obtaining any necessary resource consents the Council is obliged to investigate and ensure that necessary consents are obtained.
The Council recommends that customers employ professional surveyors, town planners or resource management consultants to help with their application for a consent.
Plans for a resource consent need not necessarily be done by an architectural draughtsman, as long as they are to scale and clear.
To apply for a consent, the following information needs to be lodged with Council
- A completed standard application form.
- A set of plans. Details of the plans required and the number of copies needed are in the resource consent application pack which can be sent out to the customer.
- An assessment of effects for a land use consent and subdivision consent.
- A report setting out the details of the proposed subdivision for a subdivision consent.
- A copy of the certificate of title - which must be no older than 2 months.
- Neighbour's consent (consent from affected parties) may be required.
- The appropriate deposit (see cost).
- A survey plan for a subdivision consent.
