Walking Tracks In Rodney District

Only 30 minutes north of Auckland and stretching from the east to the west coast, Rodney District boasts sandy beaches, sparkling coastal waters, rugged cliffs, native bush, dunes, lakes, wetlands and walking tracks.

Holiday Parks In Rodney District

Rodney District offers excellent coastal holiday parks in three locations, Orewa, Martins Bay, Whangateau and a camping ground at Shelly Beach.

Our holiday parks offer powered tent/campervan/caravan sites and cabins.  Orewa and Martins Bay also have self-contained tourist flats.

In the Northern Ward

Suggested itineraries:

First stop the Honey Centre, catch a sheep show, visit the Satellite Station, then Warkworth Museum and view the age old Kauri trees. Arrive at the boutique style village of Warkworth and enjoy a leisurely walk along the riverbank.

For a full day excursion visit Kawau Island with ferries departing daily from Sandspit, view Mansion House and stroll to the Copper Mine.

Visit Matakana, with so much to offer - food, wine, art and craft. View the magnificent African Ostrich, a unique farm experience for all to enjoy.

Explore the magical underwater world of Goat Island, a haven for divers and snorkellers. Other activities include the Dome Valley and Moir Hill walkways, horse riding, regional parks, and many stunning beaches for surfing, swimming, or simply relaxing in the sand.

In the Eastern Ward

Suggested itineraries:

Kick off the morning bargain hunting in Silverdale. Challenge a friend to go-kart racing, while families enjoy a train ride. The many safe beaches are great for swimming. Gulf Harbour adds an international flavour, with shops, cafes and a world class golf course.

View Orewa House Gallery then take a stroll along Orewa Beach or visit a regional park. Relax at Waiwera Thermal Resort soaking away the pains or experience the excitement of the hydroslides.

An alternative for a day is Tiritiri Matangi off the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, an open bird sanctuary and home to many of New Zealand's endangered birds.

In the Western Ward

Suggested itineraries:

Depart from the Kumeu Visitor Centre, State Highway 16 Kumeu and head north for 5 mins to Gallery 16, showcasing top local artists. A wine tasting and tour is recommended at one of the local wineries. Visit the magnificent Muriwai Beach, stunning backdrop to an extensive gannet colony, with birds in residence from October to April.

For a bit of excitement you can choose from a 4 wheel bike adventure, mountain biking at Woodhill Mountain Bike Park or horse-back riding in the Woodhill State Forest to sky diving at Parakai.

For the more relaxed, a game of golf at Helensville, Muriwai or South Head or for history lovers browse the Helensville Pioneer Museum, and Iron Park. A cruise on the magnificent Kaipara Harbour aboard Kewpie Too.

Enjoy a picnic at Shelly Beach then finish the day soaking in thermal waters at Parakai.
