As part of supporting growth in Matakana Village a Draft Catchment Management Plan has been developed to address the integrated management of stormwater in the village.
Currently land use within Matakana Village consists predominantly of medium intensity residential properties and some mixed business around the southern end of Matakana Valley Road. Land in the eastern part of the area is predominantly rural in nature.
The Matakana Village area has been earmarked for future growth. The existing stormwater system is a mixture of small, flat, open drains and pipes and some additional infrastructure will be needed to accommodate the expected growth.
The wastewater treatment plant is at capacity, and plans are underway to direct wastewater to the Omaha plant which will also deal with the anticipated growth.
The Catchment Management Plan will be used to support the application for a stormwater network consent. While the consent will be notified with a formal submission period, the Council welcomes any comments at this stage, which can be directed to the Environmental Services Assets and Programmes team at Council.
