RDC Youth Strategy

RDC Youth Strategy

The youth of today will inherit the Rodney of tomorrow and we want to know what you want it to be like.

That's why at Rodney District Council, we're listening to you.

2Educate Campaign

Rodney District Council and the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand (ALAC) in conjunction with a number of local organisations are about to begin an education campaign called 2Educate.

The aim of 2Eduate is to educate communities about the effects and implications of the supply of alcohol to youth under the age of 18 and also to raise awareness of services available to youth and families dealing with alcohol issues.

To ensure that we target our campaign in the most effective way we need to gain an understanding of the situation right now.

2Educate Online Survey

If you are 18 or over we would really appreciate if you could fill out our online survey.  All responses to the survey will be completely confidential and in no way will be linked back to you.

A summary of the results will be available online in January 2010.

For more information about this campaign please contact Nicola Reid on 0800 4265169 or email Nicola.reid@rodney.govt.nz.

Youth Festival Survey - We want to know what you think!

The Youth Festival idea was first created by a group of 12 youth from all across the district who came together to learn about the Long Term Council Community Plan and writing submissions.

The Youth Festival is a way of celebrating and promoting everything that there is for youth within Rodney, while enjoying some of the amazing musical talent we have within our beautiful district.

It's a great idea but to make the festival a success we need to know what young people would like to do at the festival and we want your ideas about how it should be organised.

So please help us out by taking 5 minutes to complete this survey and sharing your thoughts.

4Uth Strategy

What's the 4Uth Strategy about?
The purpose of the Youth Strategy is to identify what the young people in Rodney want and need from their Council and to say how the Council plans to help young people in Rodney.

To download the Youth Strategy click here.

The Aim Of The Strategy
The aim of the strategy is to set out what young people (between 12 to 24) in Rodney want and need from their Council and to how the Council plans to help young people in Rodney.

The Key Ideas In The Strategy:
1. Young people want to participate in and influence the future shaping of their communities
2. Young people value their social environment and want to be active and safe
3. Young people want things to do and places to hang out
4. Young people want to be able to get around the district safely
5. Young people value their natural environment and want it to be kept clean and accessible
6. Young people want access to education, employment, career and other opportunities and services

Review Of The Youth Strategy
In 2008 the first formal review of the 4Uth Strategy was initiated.  The review examined four areas:

1. An internal review of the Council's performance on youth related issues since 2004.
2. A review of the statistics and what they can tell us about how well youth in Rodney are doing.
3. Feedback from youth and youth service providers on the effectiveness and value of the strategy to date.
4. Feedback from youth on their present needs, values and priorities.

The results of this review were presented to the Council in February 2009.  The reviewed Youth strategy was then publically consulted on with the Council adopting the final version in June 2009.
