The Rodney District Council (RDC) has applied to the Auckland Regional Council for consents for the existing and future stormwater network for the Orewa catchment. An integrated catchment management plan (ICMP) for the catchment has been developed, identifying works to address existing and future stormwater issues. These works include future pipe upgrades in the Moana, Alice/Edward and Elizabeth/Manuka areas, as well as other minor works around the town.
The stormwater network includes coastal outfall structures that discharge stormwater into the coastal marine area (CMA). RDC proposes to carry out maintenance works on 17 existing outfalls, to remove and existing outfall and to construct two new outfalls on Orewa Beach as part of the improvement works. The maintenance is mostly to improve visual appearance of the outfalls.
