What is it and how does it work?
The No Spray Register has been set up by Rodney District Council for residents who prefer the road berm outside their properties not to be treated with herbicides for weed control.
Customers who wish to join the no spray register must agree to undertake their own weed control on the berm outside their property.
If a person requests to go on the no spray register, they must agree to maintain their property frontage to ensure it is kept tidy and poses no visibility of safety hazards for traffic.
If visibility, safety or the integrity of the roading asset is compromised by weeds then, following consultation with the residents of that road, the contractor may spray a "no spray" road.
Herbicide control is undertaken by contractors engaged by Council who are aware of the "no spray" register. Where requested, the contractors will endeavour to contact "no spray" customers prior to spraying in their area.
'No spray' edge marker posts will be installed by Council's contractors (free of charge) on those properties who appear on the “no spray” register in rural areas so our contractors can easily identify no spray properties.
Weed control for road berms and footpaths is carried out twice annually in rural and urban areas and four times annually in the commercial centres. Rodney District Council uses Round Up (Glyphosate). Suppliers are AGPRO NZ Ltd and have a website www.agpro.co.nz for further information.
Notes:
- It is the property address that is listed on the no spray register. This information does not automatically update if you move house. To update your details or come off the “no spray” register see below.
- All other maintenance activities such as the routine mowing will continue as usual. (However, should they fail to maintain the frontage to the requisite standard; Rodney District Council reserves the right, after appropriate warning, to resume vegetation control spraying.)
- While all care is taken by the contractor to ensure that those properties on the no spray registar are not sprayed, there may be instances where oversights are made.
How do I register?
Customers can join the no spray register if they are prepared to remove weeds on the road reserve outside their property. They will also need to sign acceptance of the Terms and Conditions relating to being on the “no spray” register.
