Vehicle Crossings

What is a vehicle crossing?

Vehicle crossings are the driveway area between the road and private property boundary.

The area further up (i.e. the driveway) is separate.

The information relating to vehicle crossings is the same regardless of whether the driveway is shared or ROW or easement.

Who is responsible for vehicle crossings?

Each property owner must provide access from the road to their own property boundary.

Construction, maintenance and upgrade of the vehicle crossing to provide this access must conform to Council standards, at the cost of the property owner. These are outlined in the appendices of the “Standards for Engineering Design and Construction”. Refer to Request for initial technical information for further information.

In the event that the Council widens or realigns a road and such activities require the vehicle crossing to be altered to meet the new road boundary, the Council will reinstate the vehicle crossing access at the cost of the Council. Ongoing maintenance and repair of the vehicle crossing remains the responsibility of the property owner.
