Rodney District Council engaged Booz and Company to undertake a Park and Ride study into the feasibility of having a Park and Ride for the Hibiscus Coast and Western Rodney areas.
The purpose of the study was to propose a plan for developing Park and Ride and other related facilities to provide effective public transport access to Rodney residents. A total of seven different potential locations have been considered.
The study focussed on getting Rodney residents into North Shore, Waitakere or Auckland cities, and home again. As such the study does not seek to address intra-district travel.
At the regional level, it is identified that Park and Ride facilities are a component of the transport plan for the Auckland Region. At the Rodney District level, the Moving Rodney draft transport strategy provides clear guidance that the development of Park and Ride facilities is an important component of the future transport system for Rodney.
The Council is currently investigating the purchase of land at 1 Hibiscus Coast Highway for a Park and Ride and has included funding for the project in the Draft Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP).
