Take-a-mate

What is Take a Mate?

Take a mate
is a proven user-driven web and map-based carpooling system. Created in the United States, it has been operating successfully for more than five years. Rodney District Council have taken this concept and adapted it for the Rodney area as there are an unbelievable 2,000 northern Rodney residents commuting south to Orewa and beyond, every day!!

How does it work?

A Take a mate car pool is not just about the environment and sustainability, it's also about cost savings, reducing road maintenance, and linking up a group of 'like' people who may even forge a friendship outside the ridesharing hours.

The cost savings are potentially immense. Research shows that on a typical daily commute between Warkworth and Orewa (25km each way), car-poolers can save $70 per week! That's a whopping $3,500 per year. The longer your commute and the more you carpool, the more you'll save.
