Riverhead Structure Plan

Ward: Western

The Riverhead Structure Plan provides the framework or structure for the future development of the Riverhead area – coordinating future land use, services, transportation and greenspace for areas under multiple land ownership.

Structure Plans are not statutory (legal) but provide the basis for changes to the District Plan and Council infrastructure/capital expenditure.

Riverhead Structure Plan was adopted by Council on 7th August 2008.  The next stage in the process will be to start work on the detailed rules for inclusion in the District Plan.  Once the draft rules are complete they will be advertised and public submissions invited.

Some of the key elements of the Riverhead Structure Plan are:

  • Generally a minimum of 800m2 section sizes for existing Riverhead

  • A mixture of section sizes between 600m2 – 800m2 for new planning areas to the north and south of the existing settlement

  • New retail provision anchored in the centre of the settlement

  • New Riverside walkways to create better connectivity where possible with the river.
