The general purpose of the Sandspit-Snells Beach-Algies Bay Structure Plan (adopted in 1999) is to:
- Define a vision for the future growth and development of the area and its townships.
- Provide an overall spatial framework for growth commensurate with the areas capacity to sustain urban development.
- Provide a guideline for the integration of the physical components (e.g. land use, engineering services, roads) of future development.
- Provide a basis for coordinated programming of downstream policies, projects arid budgets, and thereby a mechanism for day-to-day management.
- In terms of the above, the purpose is to generally provide an integrated physical development plan so as to minimise ad hoc decision-making.
