News and Updates:
At a public meeting on Wednesday 22 September at the Kumeu Commuity Hall the new wastewater system and associated costs were dicussed. Residents had a number of questions which have now been developed into a questions and answers sheet available here.
Introduction:
Kumeu and Huapai are expected to be one of the fastest growing parts of Rodney District. The towns currently have a population of 1,400 and this is expected to reach 3,800 by 2021.
The area is a key driver for economic growth in Rodney as Kumeu and Huapai together comprise the second largest business centre in Rodney, after Silverdale. This high level of growth means that additional land will need to be made available for new homes and businesses while preserving the traditional industries in the area. The Council has released changes to the District Plan to allow new residential development in the area.
Changes need to be made to the infrastructure of the area. These include a public wastewater and water supply system. This new infrastructure needs to be funded, and additional land zoned for residents and business activities to accommodate development. Nearby Riverhead also requires a public wastewater and water supply system.
