The Orewa Catchment Management Plan provides an integrated approach to managing stormwater in Orewa. The study area covers the eastern half of the principal Orewa River East catchment area which is currently utilised for medium density residential use, with a large central business and commercial area. Further development is also planned within the area for high density residential use.
Historically this catchment area has suffered from flooding problems related to the relatively flat topography and it is this principle issue which the Council wishes to address.
The Orewa Catchment Management Plan outlines and incorporates the key issues and catchment objectives developed by the council. The report also assesses the effects on the environment of stormwater discharges, details stormwater treatment/flow, suitability of identified devices and strategies, flood control options and cost estimates.
