Introduction
The Stanmore Bay Catchment covers an area of 474 ha, and is located at the western end of Whangaparaoa Peninsula. Stanmore Bay is bounded by the Hauraki Gulf coast to the east, and the Weiti River to the west.
The study catchment discharges into Stanmore Bay via three main watercourses: Vipond stream, Stanmore Stream and Brightside Stream/Drain. These streams have catchments of approximately 160 ha, 200 ha and 100 ha respectively, and drain towards a single outlet at the north east of the catchment.
The Purpose of this Plan
A number of stormwater related issues have been identified in the catchment, relating to both stormwater quality and quantity, and the effects of the potential intensification of the catchment on the environment.
The key issue for Stanmore Bay currently is flooding, and a number of options have been investigated in order to reduce the risk of flooding due to the existing catchment development. Rules for new development and intensification also focus on avoidance of flooding exacerbation, along with stormwater quality management.
