Excessive noise is noise that unreasonably interferes with your peace, comfort and convenience.
Making A Noise Complaint
To make a noise complaint (during business or after hours) please contact us.
If the noise is confirmed as excessive, the music (or noisy equipment) must immediately be turned down to a reasonable level. If Council receives more complaints of excessive noise within 72 hours, Council and the Police can seize the noise-offending equipment.
Construction, maintenance & demolition work noise
There are no strict rules about the hours that construction activities may take place; however the table below should be used as a guide.
Construction type activities include earthmovers, bulldozers, jackhammers, sandblasters, chainsaws, and road construction work and maintenance.

Noisy construction to be avoided |
Light domestic maintenance work on Sundays or public holidays – such as mowing lawns and trimming hedges is considered a reasonable activity and may take place outside these times.
Return of seized (stereo) equipment
We will hold your equipment if it is seized. The equipment may be returned if we are satisfied that it will not be used to create further noise problems.

Please note: As part of the transition to the new Auckland Council, some regulatory forms are being standardised. Prior to 1 November 2010 this/these form(s) can be used at any local government organisation in the Auckland area.
If equipment is to be returned, you will need to pay the cost of the call outs, storage and delivery. You will need to pay by cash only.
To ensure that the equipment is returned to the rightful owner please bring proof of identity and the original copy of the seizure notice when you come to collect your equipment.
