There are a number of sources of funding available to support environmental projects and sustainable initiatives, a few of which are outlined below. To help you decide on the most appropriate source and for assistance with applications please contact our Environmental Education Officer.
Rodney District Council Natural Heritage Fund
The purpose of the Natural Heritage Fund is to assist and actively encourage the Rodney District community to manage, protect and enhance biodiversity, indigenous vegetation and wildlife habitats. Community initiatives are expected to have clear and enduring environmental benefits.
Applicants are required to submit two completed copies of the Natural Heritage application form and provide supporting documents for consideration.
Applications for less than $2,000 will be evaluated throughout the year under delegated authority. Applications for more than $2,000 will be reported to the Rodney District Council Community and Environment Committee for decision in June and December of each year. Rodney District Council Environmental Education Fund
The purpose of the Environmental Education Fund is to assist community groups and schools actively participate in environmental projects and sustainable initiatives which have an educational focus and do not fit the criteria for the Natural Heritage Fund. Examples of projects that have been funded in the past include the provision of materials for installing a worm farm in a school, supporting planting projects and sustainable living workshops.
The value of grants awarded is usually between $100 and $1,000 and applications must be received before June 15 2010. For more information and an application form click here: Environmental Education Fund application or contact our Environmental Education Officer sarah.stead@rodney.govt.nz.
Auckland Regional Council Environmental Initiatives Fund (EIF)
Around $500,000 is available annually to support projects that support individuals and groups to improve and care for the Auckland region’s natural, cultural and physical environments. Auckland Regional Council Coastal Enhancement Fund (CEF)
Around $300,000 is available annually to support groups and individuals whose projects will enhance, restore and protect Auckland's coastline. Please contact the ARC CEF Coordinator for more details on 09 366 2000 ext: 8692, email cef@arc.govt.nz or visit the ARC website for more details.
MAF Sustainable Farming Fund
Up to $11.75 million a year is invested by MAF in farmer, grower and forester-led projects that deliver economic, environmental and social benefits to New Zealand’s primary industries.
