Kerbside Recycling

The kerbside recycling service is available to all households, businesses and schools in Rodney.  It is included in the annual rates at a cost of $43.00 per property.

What can be recycled

  • plastic containers grade 1-7 (please note any object  made of polystyrene cannot be recycled, even if it is marked as grade 6)
  • glass bottles and jars
  • aluminium and steel cans
  • aerosols i.e. fly spray, deodorant
  • paper and cardboard (flattened, bound and no larger in size than your blue recycling bin, paper and cardboard bundled in plastic bags or placed inside a sealed cardboard box is is acceptable, as long as they are no larger than your blue bin)

Recycling Bins
Each household should already have a bin, however if your bin has been lost or broken please contact us for a replacement.  Each household is eligible to receive up to three bins which remain the property of the council and should not be taken with you in the event of a move.

Urban household receive 55L bins which are collected weekly. Rural households receive 70L bins which are collected fortnightly. Bins should be put out before 7am on the day of collection. To check your collection days use our recycling collection search.

To ensure that your recyclable material is collected, please take note of the following guidelines:

  • WASH all containers that have contained food.
  • SQUASH plastic bottles
  • Place lighter items at the bottom to stop them from being blown away
  • Tie up flattened paper and cardboard with string or put in a plastic bag no larger than your blue recycling bin.  Flattened card or paper can also be placed in sealed cardboard boxes, as long as the box is no larger than your blue bin.

A green sticker will be placed on items that are not suitable for recycling and left in your bin, including oversized cardboard.

Materials That Cannot Be Recycled
Please do not place any of the following materials in your recycling bin or paper recycling: 

Aluminium foil or food containers Arcoroc Beer 6/pack boxes
broken glass  buckets

ceramics

cling film  containers over 4L crystal
disposable nappies  frosted glass frozen food boxes
 fuel or oil containers garden tools light bulbs
machine parts  meat trays mirrors
paint tins including spray aerosols plastic bags polystyrene (sometimes marked as grade 6)
pots & pans  pyrex tetrapaks
Biscuit packets/trays


A green sticker will be placed on items that are not suitable for recycling and left in your bin. If you can’t fit all recycling into your bins, take it to your nearest recycling depot / Resource Recovery Centre, or place it out the following collection.  Please note that bottles, cans, plastics etc will not be collected if:

  • They are in plastic bags
  • They are placed in a cardboard box
  • The additional container is much larger than a recycling bin
  • It contains materials not suitable for recycling

Larger volumes of glass, cans, plastic, paper and card can be taken to your local Resource Recovery Centre.
