Cemetery burial records search
The council has a online cemetery search available to locate the records of people buried in council administered cemeteries.
Reserving a plot
All plots may be reserved for future use, with the exception of the Returned Services sections. A minimal fee is required for the benefit of pre-selecting a plot, with the full plot purchase fee to be paid at time of the first interment.
Traditional burial plots
Burial plots are available adjacent to permanent concrete berms, which have been provided for the placement of plaques or headstones. There is space on the berms for floral and other tributes to also be placed.
Ash plots
Whether the concrete berms are in traditional rows, or surrounding attractively planted gardens, these plots provide a permanent resting place for cremated remains. There is a space on the berms for plaques and floral tributes.
Returned Services section
Burial and ash plots are available for Returned Services personnel who have seen war service (as determined by the Office of Veteran Affairs). At Wainui there is also a section for those who have been part of the armed forces, but who do not meet the Office of Veteran Affairs criteria.
Spouses may also be buried in the Returned Services Section. There are specific requirements for memorial plaques and headstones. Details of these are available from the Office of Veteran Affairs, the council or your funeral director.
Wainui Cemetery Memorial Wall
As the centrepiece of the cemetery, the memorial wall offers a place to memorialise your loved ones with a small plaque. Also within this memorial wall is an area specially for little ones.
