Food Grading and Certificates

Every food premise in Rodney has a food grading certificate. The Council is responsible for inspecting and registering the premises.

Each shop must clearly display their certificate of registration, which includes their food grading, so it is obvious to customers when they enter.

In an effort to raise awareness about the food grading system, Council will be publishing the names of all food premises and their grading. This will be done on a ward by ward basis.

Food premise grading by area

View the files below to see a list of food premises and their grade in your area.

Information for Food Premises about 2010/11 Performance Assessment Surveys is now available.

What do the grades mean?

Premises are given one of four grades A, B, D & E: (O indicates pending). There is no ‘average’ standard; C is not given as a grade. Food premises are either high quality or below quality in standard.

A Grades are given to premises that are achieving a high level of compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

B Grades are given to premises that are achieving a moderate level of compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

D Grades are given to premises that are not achieving a satisfactory level of compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

E Grades are given to premises that have serious deficiencies in their level of compliance with the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

Exempt premises

There are some large outlets that have their own food safety and quality assurance programmes in place, which have been approved and audited by the Ministry of Health.  View the list of exempt premises here.
