Lake Kereta

 

 

 

 


  • Located at the end of Wilson Rd off South Head Rd in the Woodhill Forest, South Kaipara Heads.
  • Large shallow lake which used to be a major coarse fishery but in recent years fishing has become difficult due to large weed beds and declining water levels.
  • Canobacteria (blue, green algae) testing 17/3/10 - clear

Lake Kuwakatai

 

 

 

 

  • Lake Kuwakatai is located at South Head near the entrance to Kaipara Harbour.
  • No public access
  • Not tested

Lake Ototoa

 

 

 

 


  • Located off Donohue Road, South Head.
  • Can walk around the lake shore depending on the water level.
  • Stocked with trout.
  • Canobacteria (blue, green algae) testing 17/3/10 - exceeds drinking water  standards

Lake Slipper

 

 

 

 


  • Located off Ocean View Road, Tomarata, near the east coast, south of Mangawhai and 20 kms northeast of Wellsford.
  • A dune lake impounded by Holocene dune sands
  • Canobacteria (blue, green algae) testing 26/1/10 - exceeds recreational guidelines

  • Private access off Ocean View Road, Tomarata
  • Not tested

Lake Tomarata

 

 

 

  • Located at end of Atkins Road, Tomarata
  • Lake Tomarata is accessible with vehicle access to it's lakeshore. 
  • Lake Tomarata is very popular with water-skiers.
  • Lake Tomarata is signposted and is a safe swimming place for young children. It also offers a boat ramp, changing shed, toilet, BBQ and picnic tables.
  • Canobacteria (blue, green algae) testing 17/13/10 - clear
