Rugby World Cup 2011

Rodney District Council is working to prepare our district for the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Together with other local Councils in the Auckland Region, Rodney District Council is working hard to bring as much activity as possible to the Auckland region to optimise local benefits.

We want to make sure that Rodney communities and businesses benefit from the opportunity to engage with this international event and the visitors it brings.  This is to maximise the economic benefits to our district and also so our residents and communities can take part and enjoy being part of the third largest event in the world.

We expect at least 60,000 international visitors to come to New Zealand with Auckland as the main entry point. About 2,000 international media are also expected to be in New Zealand.

The 2011 Rugby World Cup is expected to attract a television audience of more than four billion people worldwide.  The World Cup is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Auckland and Rodney to the world.   The event has the potential to generate $267 million of direct economic benefits for the Auckland region.

Rodney District Council is working with key organisations from throughout the Auckland region to help prepare for Rugby World Cup 2011 and optimise the benefits to our district. The Council’s focus is to ensure RWC 2011 is an opportunity that Rodney communities and businesses are involved in, and benefit from.

Law Prevents Businesses From Unauthorised Cashing In On RWC 2011
If you haven’t bought the rights, you can’t use the Rugby World Cup name or image.  That’s the warning being given by Rugby World Cup 2011 officials, who have launched a campaign to educate people on what they can and can’t do around the event.

Protecting the rights holders has been taken very seriously in the lead up to the RWC 2011 and as a result the Government has released guidelines showing what can and can't be used in advertising.
The Major Events Management Act has been designed to prevent major event organisers and sponsors from being undermined by unauthorised commercial exploitation.   The Guide to the Major Events Management Act is now online.
