Creative Communities Scheme
Rodney District Council receives approximately $50,000 a year from Creative New Zealand for the Scheme. The Council administers the funds through two Community Arts Councils which assess the applications and allocate the grants. Large grants are available twice a year and small grants are available on a monthly basis.

ARST Fund
Applications are now open!
We invite applications that meet the criteria of: significant projects in the area of arts and culture in the Rodney District.
Applications are open from Tuesday 22 September 2009 until 5pm on Thursday 22 October 2009. $139,000 is available for distribution in this funding round.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome on December 18, 2009. As retrospective projects can not be funded, applicants are advised to apply for projects that will commence after 1 January 2010.

About the ARST Fund
The ARST Fund was initiated in October 1998 when the Auckland Regional Services Trust was dissolved. Proceeds of the trust were distributed to the territorial authorities in the Auckland region for arts and culture projects.
Applications
Your application must include a completed ARST Fund Application Form, and:
- A detailed description of the project
- A description of how the project meets the criteria
- An outline of how your project will benefit the people of the Rodney District
- An outline of any other benefits of your project
- Details of those who will be running or managing the project (please include CVs if relevant)
- A comprehensive budget showing a full break down of the project costs. Please supply quotes
- Two brief references for the project, with names and contact details of the referees
- A signed copy of the Declaration Form
Eligibility
- Your project will not be funded if it starts before funding has been approved.
- Your project will not be funded if it has previously been funded by the ARST fund for the same purpose
- Project must be significantly underway, or completed by July 2010
- Meets the criteria of “significant projects in the area of arts and culture in the Rodney District”
For the purpose of the ARST Fund the following definitions apply:
Significant: projects which are extensive, excellent, have meaning, and deliver positive impact and long term effect.
Arts and Culture: spanning all forms of cultural and creative and interpretive expression, ranging from community-based to the professional and institutional, and including those expressions and activities which develop and enhance identity.
Rodney District: projects which draw on district-wide audiences and/or participants and provide district-wide impact.
Some examples of previous projects funded by the ARST fund are:
- Rock Camp Rodney, youth Rock Camp project managed by Real Music, 2009
- Birds of Paradise, performance by Morag Brownlie and Kiss The Earth Productions, 2009
- Building refurbishment at Estuary Arts Centre, Orewa, 2006 - 2007
- Kai Poutiaki by Abe Paul at Te Hana Community Development Trust, 2006
- Sculpture symposium by Elemental Alchemy at Matakana Country Park, 2006
- Matakana Pictures, Cinema Project, 2005
- Magic Earth Theatre, 2006
