Club Licences

A Club Licence is necessary for incorporated clubs, e.g. sports clubs, social clubs etc. to sell liquor.



Applying for a Club Licence

While any club can apply for a Club Licence, it is highly recommended that the club is an incorporated society. The Ministry of Economic Development's Office deals with the registration of incorporated societies.

Processing of a Club Licence

  1. Once we receive the application and all necessary supporting documents, a copy is sent to the Police and the Medical Officer of Health, who make recommendations on the application. 
     
  2. When the application has been filed, the club has 20 working days to give public notice of the application. The notice must be published twice in a newspaper circulating in the district where the premise is situated, with not less than 5 days and not more than 10 days between the two dates of application. The public have the right to object (on limited grounds) to the application.
     
  3. The club is required to provide photocopies showing the newspaper title, date of publishing and the public notices.
     
  4. After collating the reports received from the Police and the Medical Officer of Health, and any objections that may have been received from the public regarding the application, we will make a recommendation on the application. 
     
  5. If any objections received are considered valid, the application may be determined by way of a public hearing.
     
  6. In most cases the District Licensing Agency will decide the application as presented, and issue the licence for 1 year.

Cost

The cost of a club license is $776.

Length of licence

Licences are initially issued for 1 year, and then may be renewed for a further 3 years.
