Community Service Awards
Nominations for the 2010 Community Service Awards have now closed and the award winners were announced at a ceremony in May.
The work of twelve special members of the Rodney community and seven Community organisations has been formally recognised through the 2010 Rodney Community Service Awards.
The awards recognise and celebrate the voluntary work of individuals and groups within Rodney.
The Community Service Award winners and their award categories are:
- Bruce Davies (Silverdale), Education, Youth
- Harry James (Taupaki), Social and Community
- David Poole (Gulf Harbour), Arts and Culture
- Graeme Ross (Leigh), Social and Community
- Jim Dixon (Silverdale), Social and Community, Youth
- Leone Treadwell (Wellsford), Education, Arts and Culture, Sports and Leisure
- Laurie McEntee (Kumeu), Health and Welfare, Social and Community
- Margaret McEntee (Kumeu), Social and Community, Elderly Services
- Martin Duytshoff (Kawau Island), Health and Welfare, Social and Community
- Matt Van Der Linden (Red Beach), Social and Community.
- Thomas Mayne (Orewa), Social and Community, Elderly Services
- Vicky Sheriff (Wellsford), Social and Community, Sports and Leisure, Youth
This year, in addition to issuing individual awards, seven community groups received a community service award for their work to make a positive difference within Rodney District. The Community Groups who received a Community Service Award are:
- The Shelly Beach Residents and Ratepayers Association
- The Eaves Bush Appreciation Group
- South Kaipara Landcare
- The Sandspit Residents and Ratepayers
- The Highfield Garden Reserve Advisory Group
- The Coast Youth Community Trust
- The Riverhead Residents and Ratepayers Association
A ceremony held last week celebrated the voluntary work of the award recipients. Rodney Mayor Penny Webster thanked the award winners for their work in the community. She said the awards were a highlight of the year for the Council and that Rodney was very fortunate to have so many volunteers in our community.
Applications for the awards were assessed by a panel made up of Mayor Penny Webster, Deputy Mayor John Kirikiri and Councillors from each of the four wards.
