Local government is the closest level of government to the people. Rodney District Council has a wide range of responsibilities relating to the District. Some of these are core responsibilities under legislation, others are responsibilities arising from the direction the District has chosen to move in.
Rodney District Council is responsible for the District's:

Economy: promoting an environment that will foster economic development and job opportunities in Rodney.

Environment: safeguarding its rural and lifestyle setting and protecting it for present and future generations as expressed through Community Outcomes and as set out in the Resource Management Act.

Society: ensuring the District remains a safe, healthy and enjoyable place for the people of Rodney.
