Further information
The Matakana and Pt Wells/Omaha Flats communities have been involved in
a series of public meetings and focus groups to define their future
direction.
Through this process the community provided us with their views and
vision for the future. They have told us what is important about their
place and what must be protected and enhanced. These thoughts and ideas
have helped shape the development of the Matakana and Pt Wells/Omaha Flats
Sustainable Development Plans which have now been adopted by Council.
The adopted Plans are available for purchase from the Warkworth Service
Centre and Orewa Office for a cost of $30. They can also be viewed below
and at Rodney Libraries.

Sustainable Development Plan for Pt Wells/Omaha Flats
The Sustainable Development Plans consider local community aspirations
and values, in the context of achieving a sustainable environment and
economy for future generations. The prime purpose of the Sustainable
Development Plans is to define a vision and strategy to manage future
growth. The Sustainable Development Plans aim to:
- Reflect the community’s vision for the future
- Set out how much growth and where it can be accommodated
- Guide infrastructure planning for growth and development
- Provide a framework for sustainable economic and social development
The next step is to promote a formal change to the District Plan to
incorporate elements of the Plans and put in place “live” zonings.
The District Plan change process is a statutory (legal) process that
will involve public submissions and if necessary a right of appeal to the
Environment Court.
