Rodney District Council intends to prepare a Reserve Management Plan for
land at Green Road, Dairy Flat.
About Green Road Reserve Land
It is
anticipated that Green Road could be appropriate for regional and national
sporting facilities (relevant to Rodney communities) as well as local
facilities, and will have a significant component of informal recreational
areas.
- The Green Road property is a significant reserve land holding in
Southern Rodney District located in a predominantly lifestyle farming
area.
- Approximately 154 hectares located on Green Road, Dairy Flat.
- It is expected that there will be a mix of passive and active
recreational activities provided for on this site.
- The site is a mixture of flat and sloping land with vegetated stream
corridors and pasture land.
- Four development principles have been established for this site:
- The principle objective for the property is to establish a sports
park and reserve for a range of active and passive recreational
pursuits open to a range of users both organised and casual.
- The overall management responsibility will remain with Rodney
District Council as a single management entity not withstanding the
fact that leases and licences may be entered into with individual user
groups.
- To the extent that is reasonably and practicably possible the
existing wetlands, water features and native vegetation will be
retained and enhanced as habitat for native birds and other indigenous
wildlife.
- To the extent that is reasonably and practicably possible any
built works will be designed in a visually coherent manner respectful
of the environment and landscape context.
