Subdivision in Lieu of Protecting Wetlands

This is an example of a good Rodney wetland exhibiting a range of habitat and vegetation types, from open water with Carex secta (foreground) to Raupo Reedland in the background. 

This sites lacks fencing and buffering vegetation and would benefit from this type of management but is considered a good example due to health, diversity and size of the wetland. 

The following publication is intended to supplement the Guidelines contained in Chapter 7 and Appendix 7C of our Proposed District Plan 2000 and should be read in conjunction with them. 

It includes:

  • a definition of a wetland

  • how a wetland area is assessed

  • how to use the criteria to meet the expectations of Council.
