Please note: You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to view and print this document.

Purpose

To bring together senior staff of agencies and organisations who have an effect on the promotion and implementation of Vision Rodney outcomes to discuss:

  • how we are going about the business of interweaving our Vision Rodney outcomes with the social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being of our community;
  • how we are gaining commitment and collaboration; and
  • how they would like to work with us to measure and monitor the process of achieving our community’s outcomes.

Objectives

  • To launch the establishment of the Rodney Social Development Advisory Group under the mandate of the Rodney Leaders’ Forum.
  • To present the work of the Rodney Employment and Skills Working group as an example of collaboration in strategy development and implementation.
  • To celebrate the signing of a series of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as tools to focus activity, and align planning between agencies.
  • To present the Greater Matakana framework as a case study for Sustainable Community Development.
  • To workshop opportunities and issues relating to working in a partnering environment with Rodney District Council (to inform the Rodney District Council Partnering Plan).

CEO's letter

The following text is taken from a letter from our CEO, Vijaya Vaidyanath, which was sent out to those invited to the forum.

You will have received our invitation to the Rodney Leaders’ Forum – The Sequel. I am looking  forward to sharing this special occasion with you on Wednesday 27 April, at Soljan’s Vineyard, Kumeu.

Since the launch of the forum in May last year we have been developing our relationships with a number of organisations exploring ways to deliver our Vision Rodney outcomes. As a result we are increasingly aware of the value of your involvement in our community.

 As part of the process of responding to Vision Rodney we have also been reviewing how Rodney District Council responds to the delivery of those outcomes; developing Action Rodney, our Partnering Plan and our Finance and Funding Plan, for example.

 I personally undertook, in May last year, to ensure the success of Rodney District Council’s  inter-agency collaboration by building:

  • on what is already working well;
  • growing sound relationships over time;
  • realistic expectations and timeframes;
  • being clear about the role the Council will take;
  • an understanding of our parters’ roles and;
  • to provide leadership so that our community outcomes will be achieved.

We are mindful of the requirements of the Local Government Act 2002 that local authorities should work with other agencies and organisations to identify and implement our community’s outcomes and that we should also gain agreement as to how we will monitor and report who is doing what to achieve those outcomes. The Rodney Leaders’ Forum is part of the process we are developing to achieve these aims.

With all this in mind … what will the Rodney Leader’s Forum – The Sequel be about?

 Simply:

  • how we are going about the business of interweaving our Vision Rodney outcomes with the social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being of our community;
  • how we are gaining commitment and collaboration; and
  • how you would like to work with us to measure and monitor the process of achieving our community’s outcomes.

The afternoon will be a mixture of presentation, discussion and a tinge of theatre and I look forward to your company.

The wheel was printed onto large cardboard circles that sat on the tables at the Forum so people could write their responses directly on the 'tablecloth'. The feedback from the wheel has been collated and is available here.
