The objective is to develop and maintain safe, direct, convenient and pleasant walking and cycling networks and supporting facilities for Rodney District. The accompanying action plan 2005 – 2009 covers a period of 4 years, which commenced in 2005. It will be updated in 2009 and every 3 years after that. The Action Plan Appendices contains maps of proposed walkway plans.

Walkways and cycleways that are solely meant for recreational purposes are not included in this strategy as they do not qualify for Land Transport New Zealand funding. A separate strategy will be developed for recreational walking and cycling.
